Today's strip marks the point where I made the awkward-yet-terrifying jump from inking in Adobe Illustrator to inking in Adobe Photoshop. Even though it's only a single panel, it probably took me twice as long to ink this than the previous day's strip. I feel like I've got the hang of it now, but if the next couple of days look like I've been letting a drunk baboon draw the strip, you'll know why. And speaking of today's strip, reader and fellow cartoonist Bryan Prindiville (who has done some incredibly charming Ugly Hill fan art... thanks, Bryan!) has requested a desktop image of Hastings ripping off "The Shining", and I am inclined to deliver. Keep your eyes here for that before the end of the week, hopefully.
This entire storyline, wherein Hastings takes an experimental drug called "Nosleepitolâ„¢" to negate his body's need for sleep, was inspired by a blog post by Scott Adams some weeks ago about an actual drug scientists are developing that would do exactly that... enable your body to function without sleep. I don't know about you, but I found this prospect simply horrifying, and couldn't resist the temptation to draw the results of ingesting such a drug. So thanks, Scott Adams, and thanks also to the Scientists! You could be working on cancer, but instead you're trying to figure out how to force us all to work 24 hours a day.
You're the real heroes.
Edit: As promised, here's that desktop wallpaper! It's at 1680x1050, so I'm hoping that will be big enough to cover everyone.
